The analysis of the life and work of twenty one exceptional women in the History of The United States has been carried out from an interdisciplinary perspective, open to dialogue. The authors have tried to deepen and refl ect on the role of these women and the different strategies they were forced to adopt in order to obtain their creative freedom.
The women studied have been gathered into different groups: activists, artists, musicians, politicians and scientists and technicians. They come from very different socioeconomic and ideological contexts but they all display courage and coherence as common linking elements. Retelling their story implies recovering their voice.
